Rowboat Passenger

I shift gently forward

then back

to the rhythm of the oarsman

silent surge of leverage

as the oars cut the glass surface

then a release

casting drops back to the black water

the trail of rings glides swiftly behind us

joining the wake

that carries his cadence to shore
